Install and Onboard

TilliT Edge to your configuration

TilliT Edge will be shipped ready to be added to your facility. Contact support to ask any questions about your unique installation. If you do not require a physical device, then look at creating a self managed docker instance.

When you receive your Edge device, make sure you take note of the Thing ID. You will use it in the next step.

To assign the Edge as your device, open Settings in TilliT and go to the Edge section.

  1. In the settings menu, select the Edge > Edge
  2. Click the Actions dropdown and select create; this will open a new pop-up config window.
  3. In the Create Edge pop-up screen, complete the following;
    • Name - this is a name that you can call this Edge. Make it so that you can recognize where you will install it.
    • Description - an optional text field for you to use to describe that Edge device.
    • Type - the type of edge to create depending. If you have a physical device, you will need to add a Thing Id
    • Thing Id - you will need to enter the value included with the Edge package.
  4. Click Save and open.

Once you save Edge with the correct Thing ID, you will lock in that device to your tenant. You will then be able to start creating data sources.

To check that your edge is online and working, observe the tick box in the "Online" field. Your edge device will update it's connected status every minute.

Publishing changes.

Take note that there is a PUBLISH CONFIGURATION button on the top right toolbar.

You will need to click on this button every time you change a configuration in order for that change to be applied.

Once you click this button, TilliT will send the new configuration version to the Edge device, and use it in the next poll cycle.

Troubleshooting your Edge

After publishing your configuration, the status will attempt to connect to your supplied datasources and read tag addresses. In the event that any of these fail, the edge will report back with an error of what went wrong. This error is displayed in the status column of the edge and is represented by a symbol representing:

  • Green tick - No Errors, everything working.
  • Blue Exclemation - Either the edge has not yet reported the status or you still need to publish the configuration
  • Red Exclemation - An error has occured on either this item or an item below it. Hover over the symbol to see the error message

The status symbol will not only display errors for itself, but also the errors that are inside of it. For example, a tag failed to be read, the datasource and the tag will display the error message.

Another way of troubleshooting your edge is by reading the logs of the device. When you select you device inside the edge settings, you will see another panel called Edge Logs. Open this to see the last 20 messages your device sent. These logs contain errors encountered during operaiton, as well as events that have triggered so you can monitor what the edge is doing with more accuracy
